Life Insurance

Life Insurance is a simple concept:

You pay a monthly premium to the insurance company and, if you die, they pay a higher benefit amount to your family. What makes it complicated is figuring out what type of life insurance to get, how much to select, and what you should be paying for it. Is the life insurance you can buy through work good enough for your family? Does it have restrictions or exclusions? What happens if you leave your job? Take out the guess work and talk to a professional who can cut through the noise and get you the right coverage for your needs.

The truth is that most people don’t have sufficient protection in place if the worst happens. An unexpected death in the family has tremendously devastating effects, most of which no amount of money can relieve. Money doesn’t bring a loved one back, but it can provide breathing room to properly grieve the loss and avoid major financial decisions that will negatively impact the immediate family and future generations.

Keep in mind that while it’s easy to get a life insurance policy through work, those group term life policies come with a lot of restrictions and limitations. Ultimately, they are tied to your job so they’re unlikely to be there if you have a decline in health and leave your job while battling an illness. It’s the difference between renting and owning. Taking control of your coverage by owning an individual policy means you set the terms of your coverage, including how long it will last and if you’re covered after you get sick.

Most life insurance advertising tells you how much the youngest and healthiest person will pay for coverage – just so they can get you to give them your information. If you do that, you’ll probably get calls and messages from a dozen different brokers asking for your business, and you still won’t know how much your policy will actually cost!

I hate that business model and have avoided it in my over 10-year career as an insurance advisor. My clients aren’t just details on an application with monthly premiums attached, they’re real people that I have a duty to advise to the best of my ability. As a Certified Financial Planner® professional I swore a fiduciary oath to look out for the best interests of my clients. I never make a recommendation I would not make for myself in the same situation.

So, message or give me a call and take some time to not only check something off your to-do list, but to make sure that your family is protected if something happens to you. Cheers!
